Why Book a Visit to Read?

Ignites a Love of Reading

Kids who see an author in person are more likely to pick up a book on their own. Rick's visits spark a reading habit that lasts.

Hilarious and Engaging

Rick the Truck events are packed with laughs, sound effects, and audience participation. Kids stay glued to every word.

Life Lessons

Rick and his friends show that while we may look different on the outside; we are all the same underneath, whether truck or human.

Schools, Libraries, and Churches

We visit all kinds of community spaces — classrooms, auditoriums, libraries, and church halls. Any size group welcome!

Frequently asked questions

How Far in Advance Should I Book?

We recommend booking at least 4–6 weeks in advance, especially during the school year. Popular dates fill up fast!

Do the Reading Visits Cost Anything?

Our visits are quite inexpensive. Our goal is to share the excitement of reading. If your venue is within 100 miles of Doc Rosco's house, the visit is free. If over 100 miles, we typically ask to only cover costs of getting to the reading. We want to reach as many young readers as possible, so contact us even if you don't have a budget for visits.

How Long is a Typical Reading Event?

Most events run 45-60 minutes and include a reading, Q&A, and a fun activity. We can adjust the length to fit your schedule.

Are Books and Merchandise Available at Events?

We want the visit to be about the joy of reading as a group, inspiring imagination, and fun! While we don't want the kids nor their families to feel pressured to buy anything during the visit; we will have books and merchandise available at reduced prices during the visit. We will also have our website available for purchases after the event.

Do You Travel Outside the Local Area?

We do! Early on, we are trying to stay within a 2-3 hour drive from Asheville, NC. If bookings work out, we can do regional trips. Reach out and we'll work something out.
